FORAGE SEEDS IN FORAGE MIXTURES

Selection criteria

The problems related to the choice of mixtures concern the definition of the number of components and therefore the indication of the species and varieties to be associated based on environmental adaptation, associative behaviour and methods of use (haymaking, grazing, etc.).

In the most favorable areas (plains with fertile soils), it is advisable to reduce the mixture to only two components (a graminaceous plant and a legume). In the most disadvantaged areas (less favorable climate and poorer soils) associations of 3-5 species. Only in particular situations (hilly and mountainous areas or less fertile soils) can it be justified to resort to more complex mixtures.

Mix

CROSTOLO

Mixture for long-term alternate meadows suitable for cool areas or where irrigation is possible.
The mixture is composed of fast-growing leguminous and graminaceous species capable of ensuring good production in the first two years and slow-growing species but with high productivity in the following years (replacement effect). Use for hay, pasture and green forage. Sowing rate 40-50 kg/ha.

Composition
5% Red Clover
6% Alfalfa
9% White Clover
10% Orchard Grass
10% Timothy Grass
15% Tall Fesuce
20% Perennial Ryegrass

MARE VERDE

Mixture composed only of grasses for the renewal of degraded legume meadows and for alternate lawns in areas where clover develops naturally. Mixture with high production potential and wide adaptability. Suitable for valorising sewage. Sowing rate 40-50 kg/ha

DRY LAND

Mixture for long-lasting alternating lawns suitable for plain and hilly areas with limited water availability. The production capacity is high thanks to the elasticity of the floristic composition which allows us to deal with the variability of environmental conditions both in the year of planting and in subsequent years. Use for hay, pasture and green fodder. Sowing rate 50-60 kg/ha.

SOTTOFRUTTETO

Mixture composed of fast-establishing grasses and long-lived “building” perennial grasses. The varieties chosen have an intermediate level of vigor, roots that are not very deep and limited water requirements so as not to compete with the tree crop. Weed control is effective and the management burden is medium-low.
It is suitable for grassing orchards in hilly and plain environments.

SOTTOVIGNETO

Mixture for the grassing of vineyards characterized by species that offer excellent coverage and low levels of biomass produced. The presence of legumes contributes to a discrete supply of natural nitrogen and to the improvement of the biological activity of the soil. It is a mixture of rapid establishment, resistant to trampling, long-lasting and with excellent containment of soil erosion. It is good competitiveness towards weeds. It is suitable for the grassing of vineyards in hilly and plain environments.
